Senator Inhofe trashes global warming...
What is the Republican agenda on global warming? Check out my man, Senator James Inhofe, Chairman of the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee's latest speech debunking global warming. The good senator from Oklahoma states that wacko headline seeking scientists, misguided, meddlesome, Hollywood elites and environmentalists of all stripes, armed with their bad science have created the global warming myth which the headline chasing media has gobbled up whole.
Here's a nice article eviscerating most, if not all, of the senator's evidence.
A little background on the Senator, the NAACP gives the dude a 5 rating on a scale of 1 to 100, Republicans for Environmental Protection give him a robust -3, Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund and the American Wilderness Coalition give him a zero, Gun Owners of America gave him a tidy 100, whilst the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence handed him a zero, and the American Land Rights Association which advocates access to federal lands by recreational vehicles etc., while opposing all manner of wildlife, environmental protections and predator intro programs (it goes on an on...) give the pillar of Oklahoma society a full 100 rating.
Here' an article reviewing Inhofe environmental standing upon his appointment in 2002 as chair of the committee. LINK
The Inhofe voting record and ratings on various topics and bills.
The esteemed senator's position on Abu Ghraib. "Many of them probably have American blood on their hands. And here we're so concerned about the treatment of those individuals."
He also was the major proponent of the use of the Puerto Rican Island of Vieques as a target range of American armed forces. Earlier this year Inhofe described the Iraq situation as "nothing short of a miracle".
It's also rumored that Ihhofe and Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska disuss their various pork barrel enterprises while taking baths together...(just wanted to see if anyone stuck with me here).
I have to marvel that a man with such a glowing resume on environmental issues would chair such an important committee. America is indeed in good hands.

However, the point is that the ignorant people of Oklahoma like him, and that is their right. You don't have to understand science to vote, and this is the result.
But, to be fair to the people of OK, have you ever been there? It is hotter than hell in the Summer time. I can imagine that these people have their brains fried by the heat and they don't know any better. They're probably thinking, "Global Warming, these idiot scientists in their air conditioned offices don't know anything about hot weather. Us Sooners can take the heat, but can they?"

Arghh.. Well, the Barzilian govt is at least doing something sensible, and making (and helping!) farmers reforest with Mahogany, Acai, and other native trees in the millions. They actually have evidence of global warming there, their water supply is running out.
What will it take here??? God only knows.

I think the long and esteemed career of Sen. Inhofe of Oklahoma is yet another example of the negative impact of global warming. It's too hot to think in the dust bowl. Good analysis.

It's amazing that some people can continue to deny that global warming is happening. I just don't see what they're gaining by turning a blind eye.
Eek.

Chandira, Brazil has to act, since what they do on deforestation in the Amazon, in their decisions on whether to build hydroelectric plants in tropical zones, and in what they do regarding their CO2, methane and nitrous oxide emissions matter on the global stage. They are starting, thank god, trying to stem and reverse deforestation, switching to biofuels (just hope they don't do as much environmental damage in the process, but we'll see), working aggresively to capture methane from landfills, etc. But still much to go. If you want to understand the role of Brazil and its neighbors on this question, check out my blog entry on the question: http://www.temasactuales.com/temasblog/?p=36
And as you say, at least the Brazilians are trying, as are many governments other than the US. More than the White House can say. Seems as if the US is to act on global climate change, it'll have to be at the state, local, judificial, enterprise and individual levels, without any true leadership (and little cooperation) from the feds. At least until the climate denialists can be voted out of office on Capitol Hill and 1600 Penn Ave.

Keith
